Charlotte - A series of traffic shifts will begin Sunday, Sept. 11, at 8 p.m., in connection with improvements being made to the interchange of Interstate 40 and Interstate 77 in Statesville.
At 8 p.m. on Sunday, traffic will be shifted on the ramp from U.S. 21 to westbound I-40. This shift will be completed by 6 a.m. Monday.
On Monday, Sept. 12, the following shifts will begin at 8 p.m. and be completed by 6 a.m. Tuesday:
Traffic on southbound I-77 traveling to westbound I-40 will be directed to take eastbound I-40 and use the exit to Old Mocksville Road (Exit 154) to access westbound I-40.
Traffic on southbound I-77 traveling to U.S. 21 will continue to use the I-40 West/U.S. 21 ramp, which will be available only for traffic to U.S. 21.
Traffic on northbound I-77 traveling to U.S. 21 will take the exit ramp for I-40 East/U.S. 21, then keep left to exit onto the loop ramp for U.S. 21.
Traffic on westbound I-40 traveling to U.S. 21 will take the exit ramp for I-77 North/U.S. 21, then keep left to exit onto the ramp for U.S. 21.
Traffic on northbound I-77 traveling to I-40 West will not be shifted.
The department reminds motorists to stay alert, pay close attention to the signs directing them to new routes and use extra caution when traveling through a work zone.
