Raleigh - Work required for the new Wade Avenue bridge over Capital Boulevard will require some nighttime closures of Wade Avenue. The three nightly closures will be in place from midnight to 5 a.m. the next morning on Wednesday, Jan. 25, and Thursday, Jan. 26, and again on Sunday, Jan. 29, with the road open in time for the Monday morning commute.
The closures will allow the contractor to install pipe across the roadway. The work is weather contingent.
A signed detour in place during the five-hour closure each night will send Wade Avenue eastbound traffic onto southbound Glenwood Avenue and on to Peace Street. Drivers wanting to access westbound Wade Avenue can use Peace Street and then Glenwood Avenue to get around the closure.
This is part of a $36.9 million project that will also replace the bridge on Capital Boulevard over Peace Street. The new Wade Avenue bridge is being built in the first phase of the project. Because it is going in next to the current bridge, it will remain open for most of the construction time to lessen the impact on travel.
The replacement of the Capital Boulevard bridge over Peace Street is expected to start late this spring or early summer.
Updated information on the project is available through a variety of means, including the project website on ncdot.gov, as well as through the department's Triangle twitter feed.
