Newland - Maybe someday the children will trade a plastic hat for a hard one.
N.C. Department of Transportation employees treated Children at Kingdom's Kids Preschool to an educational play session about some of the large equipment used to build and maintain North Carolina roads.
County Maintenance Engineer Travis Henley, Transportation Supervisor Adam Henderson and Transportation Worker J.R. Buchanan gave each child a plastic hard-hat, demonstrated the capabilities of a tandem-axle dump truck, invited them to sit in the cab and even blared the horn across the parking lot.
"What a treat to spend the morning with the kids," Henley said. "Who knows maybe one day one of them will be doing my job at DOT."
