Charlotte - The N.C. Department of Transportation is preparing to shift traffic tonight on U.S. 29 South near N.C. 73 in Concord as part of a $13 million project to replace two bridges over Norfolk Southern Railroad.
Weather permitting, crews will close the right lane on U.S. 29 South at 6 p.m., moving traffic to a temporary pattern. The same shift will take place for the left lane. Traffic control should be removed by 6 a.m. Thursday, August 31.
The contractor will need to do some additional work to finalize the temporary traffic pattern, which will take place under lane closures after the Labor Day holiday.
Future traffic shifts will be scheduled as the project continues, scheduled to wrap up in the spring of 2020.
