Hamlet - Sections of two state highways in Richmond County will be resurfaced in the coming months.
The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $1.6 million contract to Barnhill Contracting Co. of Rocky Mount to resurface almost 3.5 miles of N.C. 38 between the South Carolina state line and where the highway divides near Hamlet, and to resurface nearly three miles of N.C. 381 between Scotland County and Grace Chapel Road.
Before laying the new asphalt, the contractor will mill away a portion of the old pavement and reconstruct the shoulders.
The contract also includes resurfacing 9.3 miles over seven secondary roads in Richmond County.
The contractor can begin work Aug. 7, with a completion date of June 30, 2018.
