Dunn - U.S. 421, which was closed June 12 to repair a culvert, is expected to open today.
Last fall, Hurricane Matthew damaged the culvert under the highway near Warren Road, between Dunn and the Harnett-Sampson county line.
The N.C. Department of Transportation made temporary repairs following the storm, and then closed the road in both directions this month to make the repairs permanent. A culvert is an open drain that allows a stream to flow underneath a road.
NCDOT contract workers are expected to reopen the highway by Friday afternoon, June 30. The permanent repairs cost about $200,000.
