Watkins Ford Road Bridge Opens in Time For Back-to-School Traffic

Kernersville - N.C. Department of Transportation contractors have completed replacing the bridge over Abbotts Creek on Watkins Ford Road in Kernersville, re-opening a portion of the roadway that closed in May. "The original bridge was built in 1966 and was replaced to meet the demands of the traffic using it today," said Assistant Resident Engineer Ross Pishdadi. Work was scheduled for completion by today, Aug. 25, and re-opened to traffic at 5 p.m. "The opening of this roadway is crucial for motorists traveling to school on Monday," said Division Engineer Pat Ivey. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. For real-time travel information, visit or follow NCDOT on Twitter.
