Three U.S. Highways in Lee County Included in Repaving Work

SANFORD – Sections of three major routes in Lee County will be repaved in the coming months.
Starting July 30, crews for S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson will resurface the following:

• U.S. 1 between N.C. 421 and Hawkins Avenue;
• U.S. 421 Bypass between U.S. 1 and Kelly Drive;
• U.S. 421 between N.C. 42 and Rosser Road; and
• U.S. 15 between Deep River Road and the bridge at the Deep River.

In addition, 13 secondary roads will be resurfaced.

A total of almost 30 miles of roadway will be refreshed, thanks to an $8.2 million contract the N.C. Department of Transportation awarded this month.

This was one of 25 road and bridge contracts recently awarded by NCDOT. Per state law, they went to the lowest qualified bidder for each project. The contracts are worth nearly $630 million..
