- Opened Aug. 1, 2012 – Tolls began Aug. 2, 2012.
- Connects N.C. 540 between N.C. 54 and US 64 in Apex.
Phase III
- Opened Dec. 20, 2012 – Tolls began Jan. 2, 2013.
- Connects N.C. 540 between U.S. 64 in Apex to N.C. 55 Bypass in Holly Springs.

Project Overview and Purpose
The Triangle Expressway will improve commuter mobility, accessibility and connectivity to western Wake County and Research Triangle Park while reducing congestion on the existing north-south routes that serve the Triangle Region, primarily NC 55 and NC 54.
Estimated Cost
The project’s cost is just over $1 billion and is the single largest transportation infrastructure project in North Carolina history.
