NCDOT produces a number of publications regarding North Carolina’s transportation system, including maps, charts and other reference materials. Most publications are available free of charge.

The state transportation map is the department's most popular publication. The map features the state's extensive highway system, as well as important safety information.

As a reference for North Carolina's 14,000 registered pilots, NCDOT publishes the Aeronautical Chart. About 45,000 copies of this chart are printed each year and distributed to pilots by the Aviation Division. You can request a free copy online or call the Division of Aviation at (919) 840-0112.

NCDOT has designated 51 scenic byways throughout the mountains, piedmont and coastal plain. These byways are described in an attractive, 173-page book, titled North Carolina's Scenic Byways, which has been reviewed by The New York Times.
