​​​Clean Cities Coalitions

Clean Cities Coalitions are funded through the Department of Energy (DOE) to work locally to advance affordable domestic transportation fuels, energy efficient mobility systems and other fuel-saving technologies and practices. Clean Cities coalitions are comprised of businesses, fuel providers, vehicle fleets, state and local government agencies, and community organizations.

North Carolina is home to three Clean Cities Coalitions which provide access to training and resources for individuals and organizations interested in alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies.

Triangle Clean Cities, part of Triangle J Council of Government, serves a seven-county region in central North Carolina, including Chatham, Durham, Johnston, Lee, Moore, Orange and Wake counties.

Centralina Clean Fuels Coalition, part of Centralina Regional Council, serves a seven-county region surrounding Charlotte, including Anson, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly and Union counties.

The Land-of-Sky Clean ​Vehicles Coalition​​, part of Land-of-Sky Regional Council, serves a five-county area surrounding Asheville including Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood, Madison and Transylvania counties.​​


​​Commute Friendly NC

Commute Friendly NC is a statewide recognition program, funded by NCDOT, to celebrate the leadership of state businesses and organizations of all sizes who are taking valuable steps to shift single occupancy transportation trips to sustainable commute options such as vanpools, carpools, transit, teleworking, biking, walking and flex work weeks. The program recognizes businesses that provide twelve key onsite benefits or work arrangements that most organizations/businesses offer to their employees to promote an alternative commute.

Plug-in NC

Plug-in NC​ is a statewide program that promotes electric driving through education and outreach. Its website provides resources to help drivers understand EV charging, locate a charging station, and research a variety of vehicle options.
