St. Patrick’s Day Statewide Booze It & Lose It Kickoff Campaign

​The Governor’s Highway Safety Program and community volunteers will gather from 2 to 5:30 p.m.​ at Sup Dogs, 213 E. 5th St. in Greenville, to hold the statewide ‘Booze It & Lose It’ St. Patrick’s Day Kickoff.

Community volunteers will rally to canvass a 1-mile radius of downtown Greenville to raise awareness of the dangers of impaired driving, specifically over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

Fast facts:

  • 44 percent of people killed in drunk driving crashed on this holiday are between the ages of 21 and 34 years old.
  • Recent statistics show that drunk driving deaths during this holiday are generally eight percent higher than the national rate.
  • 51 percent of all nighttime fatalities on St. Patrick’s Day were due to drunk driving.
    Drunk driving fatalities on this holiday are seven times more likely to take place during the night than daytime.
