ABERDEEN – Over 55 miles of roadway in
Moore County will get fresh asphalt under a new contract awarded to Riley Paving
Inc. of Carthage.
The N.C. Department of Transportation approved the $8 million bid,
which was the lower of two submitted – 11 percent below engineer estimates for
the work.
Sections of the following highways will be resurfaced:
- U.S. 1 Bypass between the Lee County line and Crain’s Creek
- U.S. 1 Business between the U.S. 1 Bypass and Thurlow Lake Road
- N.C. 5 between Poplar Street and the end of N.C. 5
- N.C. 22 between Putnam Church Road and the Chatham County line
- N.C. 211 between Holly Grove School Road and the Montgomery County
line
- N.C. 705 between Bensalem Church Road and N.C. 24/27
Additionally, sections of 24 secondary roads will be repaved.
The contractor will start after June 25 and work through next
summer.
This was one of 18 road, rail and bridge contracts the department
recently. Per state law they went to the lowest qualified bidder for each
project. The contracts are worth $144.4 million.
