Trinity Road in Raleigh Open for Thru Traffic

RALEIGH – A safe route designed for pedestrians crossing Trinity Road in Raleigh between parking lots for N.C. State’s Carter-Finley Stadium and the State Fairgrounds is quickly nearing its completion. After closing a section of Trinity Road between Edwards Mill Road and Blue Ridge Road in March to construct a pedestrian tunnel, contractors have progressed enough to open the roadway for travel.

Though the roadway surface does not have the final pavement layer yet, Trinity Road is now passible and safe to use. Because the surface is not final, it may be an uneven and bumpy ride in some parts. Motorists are reminded to travel within the posted speed limits and use extra caution.

Although the road is open, there is still work to do on the pedestrian tunnel itself and its entrances. The contract calls for the tunnel to be ready for pedestrians by Sept. 15, but there is a financial incentive for the contractor to have it ready a month earlier. N.C. State has home football games the first three Saturdays in September.

In addition to providing a safe crossing for fans attending events at the football stadium and PNC Arena, it will also provide safety for attendees to the state fair in October, when thousands of vehicles are parked on the stadium side of Trinity Road.
