NCDOT Triangle Crews Assessing Roads, Helping with Road Repairs in Other Areas of NC

RALEIGH – N.C. Department of Transportation engineers have started assessing Hurricane Florence-impacted roads so necessary repairs can be made in the Raleigh region.

State transportation engineers are assessing sections of 14 secondary roads damaged in NCDOT’s Division 5, which includes Franklin, Granville, Warren, Durham, Wake and Person counties.

Other crews from the Raleigh-based division have been deployed to help their colleagues in harder hit areas of central and southeastern North Carolina.

“We’ve had a great amount of assistance over the years from our partner divisions through many snow and ice storms,” said NCDOT Division 5 Maintenance Engineer Scott Capps. “We are eager to help them through this tough time as they have graciously done for us so often before.”

The Person County maintenance office sent a crew of four NCDOT staff and 50 road barricades to Duplin County. Another 13 NCDOT employees were dispatched to help their colleagues in Sampson County and brought with them 85 road barricades, and 40 high water signs and other safety equipment. Today, Vance and Warren counties sent 13 NCDOT employees, 11 dump trucks and two backhoes to help Johnston County crews.

NCDOT is also working with the N.C. State Highway Patrol, state Division of Emergency Management, N.C. Army National Guard and the U.S. Department of Defense as well as local law enforcement to ensure critical personnel and supplies can be delivered to impacted areas.
