Left-Turn Lane to Be Installed at Cherry, Marshall Streets in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM – A new left-turn lane is being installed in downtown Winston-Salem at the corner of Eighth and Marshall streets.

As a result, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close a small portion of Eighth Street between Cherry and Marshall streets starting at 7 a.m. Saturday. The work also requires that the left-turn lane from Marshall Street onto Eighth Street be closed, as this portion of Eighth Street is already closed.

This closure will last until Nov. 9. However, if the work is completed sooner, the road will open earlier.

The detour around this section of work, which includes Eighth Street and North MLK Jr. Drive is to use Seventh Street, Liberty Street and Main Street.

Liberty Street and Main Street are both one-way streets, so the direction you are traveling will dictate which one you use.

Currently, there is one left-turn lane from Marshall Street to Eighth Street. During this closure of the small portion of Eighth Street, NCDOT will be constructing a second left-turn lane along Marshall Street and add a lane to Eighth Street.

As a result, there will be two left-turn lanes from Marshall Street to Eighth Street.
