Weekend Closure Set on I-85 in West Charlotte

CHARLOTTE This weekend, lane closures will be in place along Interstate 85 in west Mecklenburg County as part of a $10.6 million improvement project between mile markers 36 and 28.

N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will intermittently close two to three southbound travel lanes near the Tuckaseegee Road overpass west of Little Rock Road to safely perform hydrodemolition work to the bridge. This process removes deteriorated concrete from bridge decks to create a better driving surface.

The closures will be in place from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15.

Traffic coming south on I-85 from Cabarrus County is encouraged to take the I-485 Outer Loop (exit 48) to I-85 South (exit 10). Overhead signs will advertise the alternate route to help drivers.

Lane closures will continue to be scheduled as work advances and as weather permits. The project is scheduled for completion in September 2019.

Motorists are encouraged to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, follow posted detours, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
