Public Meeting for Proposed Improvements to Gaston County Intersection

BELMONT – The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting next week to present information about a project to improve traffic flow at the intersection of Main Street (N.C. 7) and Wilkinson Boulevard (U.S. 29/74) in Belmont. The intersection currently experiences congestion and operates at a low level of service.

The project has local government support as part of the Gaston-Lincoln-Cleveland Metropolitan Planning Organization's long-range plan. A proposed design will redirect left turns at the intersection to U-turn locations on U.S. 29/74.

The meeting is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Catawba Heights Baptist Church, 311 Belmont–Mount Holly Road. Citizens can drop in at any time to meet with the project team, ask questions and submit comments. No formal presentation will be made.

Residents who cannot attend in person can still ask questions or submit comments by phone, email or mail through Nov. 30. Contact Thad Duncan, NCDOT Project Manager, at P.O. Box 47, Shelby, N.C., 28151, or 980-552-4227.

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Doug Taylor at 919-866-4761 as early as possible so arrangements can be made.

Persons who speak Spanish and have a limited ability to read, speak or understand English may receive interpretive services upon request prior to the meeting by calling 1-800-481-6494.
