All of Lanes of U.S. 70 in Kinston Open to Traffic

KINSTON – Motorists can once again use all lanes of U.S. 70 in Kinston after the N. C. Department of Transportation repaired a bridge railing following a recent crash.

On Sunday, Dec. 9, a tractor trailer went through the bridge rail barrier along the westbound lanes and crashed into the Neuse River. The crash closed the highway while crews removed the truck from the river and inspected the bridge.

An underwater inspection of the bridge revealed no structural damage, and engineers reopened the bridge on Dec. 10.

NCDOT kept one lane of the bridge closed while crews formed and installed a new concrete railing. The work was completed today.
