RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of
Transportation’s Division of Aviation is partnering with the Aircraft Owners and
Pilots Association’s Air Safety Institute to help put on a series of “Collision
Course” seminars across the state.
According to AOPA, the ‘big sky’ can get awfully small when
multiple aircraft are in the vicinity. Even with modern technology, midair
collisions and near misses still happen too frequently.
This new ASI seminar series looks at the problem from a risk
management perspective. Instructors will identify high-risk scenarios and
locations, then lay out strategies for avoiding them. Pilots in attendance will
learn about human eye limitations that impact the ‘see and avoid’ philosophy,
proven techniques on improving visual scan effectiveness, how to maximize
visibility to other aircraft and more.
Four of these seminars will take place across North Carolina next
week, each from 7 to 9 p.m.
- Mon, March 19: Monroe (South Piedmont Community College, Old
Charlotte Hwy Campus)
- Tues, March 20: Fletcher (Western NC Agricultural Center)
- Wed, March 21: Greensboro (Guilford Tech Community College
Aviation III)
- Thurs, March 22: Morrisville (NCDOT Division of Aviation Hangar)
Pilots interested in attending can find more information on these
(and other) seminars on AOPA’s
website.
