UPDATED RELEASE:
Based on public feedback from the March 29 open house, the N.C.
Department of Transportation will evaluate potential alternatives for widening
Finch Farm Road in Trinity.
“We have listened to the citizens, who want to see other options
for improving safety and congestion on this two-lane roadway,” said Jeffrey
Teague, the project team leader for the department’s Highway Division 8. “Our
job is to propose solutions to a community’s traffic needs, so we will look at
alternative ideas.”
NCDOT will hold another public meeting this fall when the design
alternatives are ready.

TRINITY – To plan for continued growth
near Interstate 85 in northern Randolph County, state transportation officials
are proposing to widen a 2.3-mile stretch of Finch Farm Road and build two more
roundabouts on the corridor.
The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public drop-in
meeting Thursday, March 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. at
Wheatmore High School in Trinity. There, departmental representatives will
explain the project, answer questions and collect feedback that officials will
consider in the final design.
The proposal calls for widening the two-lane road to four lanes
with a median between the I-85 interchange and the existing roundabout at Old
Mountain Road. From there, a center turn lane would be added to Finch Farm Road,
stretching southward to the existing roundabout at Kennedy Road.
As part of the project, NCDOT would build a roundabout on each side
of the I-85 interchange with Finch Farm Road, which currently has stop signs.
The roundabouts would improve safety and better accommodate growth in traffic
using the interchange.
Construction on the estimated $20 million project would start in
2020 and take two years to complete.
