Chapel Hill - N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will begin work on Monday, April 9, to replace the
Old Greensboro Road bridge that crosses Phils Creek in Chapel Hill.
Built in 1978, the existing bridge no longer meets the needs of modern day traffic and requires replacement.
A portion of the road will close from 7 a.m., Monday, April 9, until work is complete in November, weather permitting.
Both
eastbound and
westbound traffic will be able to detour around the closure by using Neville Road, N.C. 54 and Hatch Road.
This project is part of the department’s
bridge program to improve the overall condition of the state’s bridges and ensure the safety of drivers who rely on them.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
