I-440 West Ramp to Eastbound Wade Avenue to Close for Two Years

RALEIGH — As part of the Interstate 440 Improvements project, N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will be closing several exit ramps, one for an extended period of time.

Beginning Monday at 11 p.m., the ramp from I-440 West to eastbound Wade Avenue will close for approximately two years.

On the average day, 1,800 vehicles use this ramp.

The closure will allow for the construction of the temporary ramp from eastbound Wade Avenue to I-440 West and for the construction of the final alignment.

A signed detour will lead drivers to the Hillsborough Street exit to turn around to access eastbound Wade Avenue.

The following ramp will be closed overnight Sunday beginning at midnight for up to five hours so crews can install concrete barriers along the side of these ramps:

  • I-440 West to eastbound Western Boulevard

The following ramps will be closed overnight Tuesday beginning at midnight for up to five hours so crews can install concrete barriers along the side of these ramps:

  • I-440 East to eastbound Western Boulevard
  • Eastbound Western Boulevard to I-440 East

Motorists are reminded of their need to slow down and pay extra attention as they travel through the work zone and to allow extra time to navigate the detour.
