North Carolina Construction Company Awarded Bridge Preservation Project

WILMINGTON – A New Hanover County bridge will be getting refurbished as a result of a contract awarded to a North Carolina construction company.

PCL Civil Constructors, Inc. of Raleigh was awa​rded a $17.9 million contract to perform preservation work on the Isabel Holmes Bridge on U.S. 74 over the Northeast Cape Fear River in Wilmington. The project area will be just under a half of a mile long and includes the removal and replacement of the grid deck, as well as repairs of the concrete deck and riding surface on the bridge. 

Work can begin as early as April, with the project completion date set for late 2020.

This is one of 21 highway and bridge projects awarded recently by the NCDOT. Per state law they went to the lowest bidder among qualified contractors. They are worth $331.5 million, more than $57 million under engineer estimates.
