CONCORD – Contract crews working on the Interstate 85 widening project in Cabarrus County have scheduled overnight lane closures on I-85 to continue work on bridges on Concord Lake Road and Dale Earnhardt Boulevard, weather permitting.
Starting tonight at 9 p.m., three of four northbound lanes of the interstate will close from mile marker 57 to 59. The northbound rest area will also close at 7 p.m.
At midnight, all northbound lanes will close. Traffic will be detoured from exit 58 (U.S. 29/601) to Dale Earnhardt Boulevard, returning to I-85 North. All traffic control will be removed by 6 a.m. Wednesday, March 27.
Lane closures will shift to I-85 South on Wednesday and Thursday nights. At 9 p.m., three of four lanes will close from mile marker 61 to 59. The southbound rest area will close both nights at 7 p.m.
At midnight, all southbound lanes will close. Drivers will be detoured from exit 60 (Dale Earnhardt Boulevard) to N.C. 3 and U.S. 29 South, returning to I-85. All lane closures will be over by 6 a.m.
Motorists are encouraged to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, follow posted detours, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
