Capital Boulevard Ramps to Wade Avenue Closed This Weekend

RALEIGH – Drivers who plan to go from northbound or southbound Capital Boulevard onto Wade Avenue will be taking detour routes this weekend. The contractor for the Capital Boulevard bridge replacements project will be removing concrete from the on-ramps in both directions.

The closures begin going into place at 9 p.m. on Friday and will end by 6 a.m. Monday, although the contractor is hoping to wrap up work early and have everything open by Sunday morning.

Signed detours will be in place. Traffic going southbound on Capital Boulevard will continue to Peace Street, where it will go west and then turn right on Glenwood Avenue to get back to Wade Avenue. Drivers planning to go to Wade Avenue via northbound Capital Boulevard will follow the same detour in reverse, using Peace Street and Glenwood Avenue to access westbound Wade Avenue. Drivers heading toward North Raleigh on Capital will not have their route affected by the work.

Drivers are urged to pay attention to the closure and detour signs and should expect travel in the area to take a bit longer than normal because of the detour routes.

The weekend work is part of the effort to re-open the Wade Avenue ramp to northbound Capital Boulevard, which is expected to happen in April.

Updated information on the project to replace the Wade Avenue ramp bridge and the Capital Boulevard bridge over Peace Street is available through a variety of means, including the project website and the NCDOT Triangle Twitter feed.
