Additional Nights of Work Added to Install Bridge Girders in Craven County

HAVELOCK - Crews have added an additional night of work this week and several more nights next week to install bridge girders for a new overpass in Craven County.

The contractor has extended previously planned work that will require lane closures between 8 p.m. Thursday, May 30, and 5 a.m. the following morning. The left lane of U.S. 70 East will be closed starting near the intersection of Hickman Hill Road, and the right lane of U.S. 70 West will be closed starting at the Walmart intersection, west of Catawba Road. A shift will be required for the open westbound lane.

Lanes will also be closed during the same overnight hours from the evening of June 4 until the morning of June 7. The right lane of U.S. 70 East will be closed starting near the intersection of Hickman Hill Road. The left westbound lane will be closed at the Walmart intersection, west of Catawba Road. A shift will be required for the open eastbound lane.

These dates are weather permitting.

Motorists should anticipate needing extra time and slow down when approaching and within the work zone.

This work is part of the $24.4 million project to improve the U.S. 70 corridor, including Slocum Gate.
