A Lenoir County Road to Permanently Close for Highway Project

KINSTON – The N.C. Department of Transportation will permanently close a section of East North Dickerson Road, north of Kinston, to make way for a four-lane freeway under construction.

The closure is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, near its intersection with Humphrey Road. After the closure, people will no longer be able to continue north on East North Dickerson Road from Humphrey Road, as that is where the C.F. Harvey Parkway is being constructed.

Instead, after the closure, drivers on East North Dickerson Road will stop at what will become a T-intersection with Humphrey Road.

Southbound traffic on the street, coming from Taylor Heath Road, will have no outlet until construction of the service road is completed, which will include a tie-in at East North. Dickerson Road.  Once the tie-in is complete, the service road will allow traffic traveling southbound to be connected to N.C. 58.

Construction of the service road is expected to take about three weeks to finish.

The $73.5 million C.F. Harvey Parkway Project will extend the four-lane freeway by 5.8 miles, improving connectivity in northern Kinston between U.S. 70, N.C. 58, and N.C. 11.  The project is expected to be substantially completed by 2021, with vegetation work finishing in 2022.

Drivers are urged to use caution and be prepared to stop while construction is ongoing.
