I-277 Improvements Continue with Ramp, Lane Closures

​​CHARLOTTE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews have scheduled several closures as part of a $16.3 million project to improve the roadway and 22 bridges along I-277. 

Tonight, crews will close the entrance ramp from East 11th Street to the inner loop from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for bridge repair.​​

Tuesday night, crews will close the entrance ramp from U.S. 74 to the inner loop, and the exit ramp from the inner loop to East Fourth street (exit 2A)  9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for bridge repair.​​

Friday and Saturday, paving operations will be taking place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the west side of the inner loop near the  I-77 interchange. This will require intermittent lane closures. ​​

On Saturday, the exit ramp from the inner loop to I-77 north (exit 1C) will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday. ​​

Also, this week the exit ramp from I-77 northbound to the outer loop (exit 9B) will be closed from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. These closures will be in place each night,  then over the weekend from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday. ​​

The entrance ramp from South Clarkson Street will be closed each night from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. for ramp repair. The onramp will then be closed from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday. ​​​

All work is weather permitting. Any rain in the forecast may delay operations. 

Detour information will be online at DriveNC.gov​ under Mecklenburg County.​

Drivers need to slow down and use extra caution while going through the work zones and the detour routes. They also need to pay extra attention to the road for their own safety, as well as any passengers, occupants of other vehicles and the construction crews in the area.​​​
