I-277 Improvements Continue This Week with Ramp, Lane Closures

​CHARLOTTE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews have scheduled several overnight closures this week as part of a $16.3 million project to improve the roadway and 22 bridges along I-277. 

Bridge repair work will close the following sections of road between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Tonight it will be the ramp from U.S. 74 East to I-77 North. On Wednesday night, it is the ramp from the inner loop to U.S. 74 West (exit 2B). On Thursday the work will be for the ramp from U.S. 74 West to the inner loop and the ramp from I-277 to East Fourth Street (Exit 2A), and on Friday night the ramp from South Church Street to I-277 will be shut down. ​

In addition, the exit ramp from I-77 North to the outer loop (Exit 9B) will be closed each night from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. Friday, and then for the weekend from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9.​​

Saturday’s work will close the ramp from I-77 North to U.S. 74 West (exit 9C) and the ramp from the inner loop to I-77 South (exit 1B), also from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.​​

On Sunday night, it will be the ramp from U.S. 74 East to the inner loop and the ramp from I-277 to E. Fourth Street that will close between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday.​​

All the work is weather permitting and subject to change. Detour information will be online at DriveNC.gov under Mecklenburg County.​​

Drivers need to slow down and use extra caution while going through the work zones and the detour routes. They also need to pay extra attention to the road for their own safety, as well as any passengers, occupants of other vehicles and the construction crews in the area.​
