One Lane Closed for Upgrades to Pitt County Highway

GREENVILLE – One lane of a Pitt County highway is closed for about 20 miles while N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews bring it up to interstate standards.

Crews will be working in the outside westbound lane of U.S. 264 from the Southwest Bypass interchange to the Wilson County line. Crews will be widening the highway by trenching it during the day and paving it at night. The work will be done in 2-mile increments.

Construction began this morning and is expected to continue through the end of the year. Once the westbound side is complete, the contractor will widen the eastbound side.

Drivers should anticipate needing some extra time for their commute and slow down while approaching and within the work zone.
