I-85 Rehab Project Requires Closures in Rowan County

CHINA GROVE – State transportation contractors have several closures planned as part of the ongoing pavement rehabilitation project on Interstate 85 in Rowan County.

Starting at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, three lanes of I-85 South will close between mile markers 69-71 in preparation for a traffic shift.

Then, at midnight, the contractor will close all lanes of I-85 South at Webb Road (Exit 70), implementing an up-and-over detour at the interchange. Once the traffic shift is complete, the up-and-over detour will be removed, allowing traffic to access the two left lanes while concrete slab repair work takes place in the right lanes.

In conjunction with the shift, the contractor will close the ramp from Webb Road onto southbound I-85. This ramp closure will last from 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, until Wednesday, Nov. 20, or as soon as the work is complete.

Drivers needing to access I-85 South will be detoured from Webb Road to take northbound I-85 to exit 72 (Peach Orchard Road) and then return to I-85 South.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information and be mindful that crews will be working near the roadway so extra caution is needed.
