Several Ramps I-440 West Ramps to Close Overnight

RALEIGH — As part of the Interstate 440 Improvements project, N.C. Department of Transportation contractors are scheduled to close ramps at Lake Boone Trail, Wade Avenue and Melbourne Road overnight.

The ramp from Lake Boone Trail to I-440 West will close at 9 p.m. to allow crews to place a barrier wall along the side of the ramp. Drivers will follow a detour from Lake Boone Trail to Blue Ridge Road to Wade Avenue to access I-440 West.

The loop from westbound Wade Avenue to I-440 West will also close at the same time to allow crews to place pavement markings on the ramp. A detour will lead drivers to Blue Ridge Road to turn around and then access I-440 West.

And finally, the back half of the ramp from I-440 West to Melbourne Road (Exit 1D) will close, meaning drivers who want to access Melbourne Road will have to turn right off the ramp onto Deboy Street and follow Huntingdon and Powell avenues back to Melbourne Road. This pattern is scheduled to be in place for the next three months.

All work is scheduled to be completed by 6 a.m. Saturday, weather permitting. A rain date is planned for the following night.

Motorists should allow extra time to navigate the detours and slow down and pay attention throughout the work zone.
