RALEIGH — N.C. Department of Transportation contractors are scheduled to shift Wade Avenue traffic this weekend as part of the Interstate 440 Improvements project.
The eastbound lanes of Wade Avenue will shift toward the median from Edwards Mill Road to the I-440 interchange. This shift will allow for the construction of the new alignment of eastbound Wade Avenue and the ramp for I-440 West.
To accommodate the shift, crews will close the ramp from eastbound Wade Avenue to Blue Ridge Road from 9 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday. A detour will lead drivers to I-440 West and Hillsborough Street to get back to Blue Ridge Road.
At the same time, the ramp from I-440 West westbound Western Boulevard (Exit 2B) will close to allow crews to complete utility relocation. During this closure, traffic will be detoured to Jones Franklin Road and back to access Western Boulevard.
The work is weather dependent and subject to change.
Drivers should pay attention throughout the work zone and allow for extra time to navigate the detours.
