MCLEANSVILLE – A project to widen a portion of U.S. 70 in Guilford County is set to begin this week.
Contract crews are widening the highway between Mt. Hope Church/McLeansville Road and Sun Lake Drive east of Greensboro.
The $11.1 million project was awarded in March and is being paid for in part with Build NC Bonds.
Work is scheduled to be substantially complete on this 1.5-mile stretch in late 2021, but various lane closures will be in place throughout the work zone through spring 2022. Drivers should slow down and be mindful of the crews at work in this area.
This is one of four segments making up a broader project to widen U.S. 70 between Penry Road and Rock Creek Dairy Road. The section between Penry and Willowlake roads is already complete. The eastern sections are being considered for future funding.
