Perkins Reappointed to State Board of Transportation

RALEIGH — Winston-Salem resident Andrew M. Perkins Jr. has been reappointed as a member of the N.C. Board of Transportation.

Perkins was reappointed by Gov. Roy Cooper and will continue to represent Division 9, which comprises Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Rowan and Stokes counties. He was also named vice chair during the board's recent meeting.

Perkins originally joined the Board of Transportation in 2003. He will continue working with N.C. Department of Transportation staff to make decisions about transportation policies and priorities.

He serves with 19 other individuals from across the state who represent NCDOT's 14 geographical highway divisions and six areas of statewide interest. The governor appoints members representing the 14 highway divisions, while the speaker of the N.C. House and president pro-tempore of the N.C. Senate each name three at-large members.

Perkins is Assistant Vice Chancellor for Facilities and Engineering at N.C. A&T State University in Greensboro. Prior to that appointment, he served as the university engineer. Before joining N.C. A&T, Perkins retired with the rank of colonel from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after 29 years of distinguished service.

Originally from the Tidewater area of Hampton, Va., Perkins received his Bachelor of Science in architecture from Hampton University and his Master of Science in architecture from the University of Wisconsin. He is also a graduate of The National War College in Washington, D.C.
