Four-Month Closure Planned for Iredell County Road

STATESVILLE – Beginning this week, N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will close a section of an Iredell County road for four months to continue improvements on the Interstate 77/I-40 interchange.

Starting Thursday, Oct. 1, Simonton Road will be closed from Riley Road to its western junction with U.S. 64. This closure will allow the contractor to complete necessary work along Simonton Road to tie into the new U.S. 64 bridge over I-77.

During this closure, all Simonton Road traffic will be redirected to Signal Hill Drive Extension to access U.S. 64.

This is one of several improvements included in the second phase of the I-77/I-40 Interchange project. The $260.3 million project, which began in 2018, will help to improve congestion and safety by widening these major highways.

Drivers are urged to use caution while using detours and should expect some delays.
