MORRISVILLE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will continue final paving work tonight on the project to improve the Interstate 40 interchange at Aviation Parkway.
At 7 p.m., crews will close the ramp from I-40 West to northbound Aviation Parkway (Exit 285B) toward RDU Airport to pave the final surface.
During the closure, message boards will direct drivers to Airport Boulevard to exit and access the airport and areas north of the interchange.
Upon completing the ramp, crews will begin paving the right lane of northbound Aviation Parkway at the bridge over I-40 and will continue north to National Guard Drive where the operation will turn around and then pave the left southbound lane back to the bridge.
The ramp and all travel lanes should reopen by 6 a.m. tomorrow.
Pending weather, additional ramp and lane closures will occur nightly this week as crews pave all lanes of Aviation Parkway from National Guard Drive to just south of Gateway Centre Boulevard at the entrance to Lake Crabtree Park, the ramps at the Aviation Parkway/I-40 interchange and lanes of I-40 between the Aviation Parkway and Airport Boulevard interchanges.
