Resurfacing Work Continues on Interstate 77 Near Uptown Charlotte

CHARLOTTE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews tonight will resume working on a stretch of Interstate 77 between Trade and Morehead Streets as part of a $10.4 million contract to improve approximately 1.3 miles of the roadway south of uptown between the Morehead Street and Brookshire Freeway exits.

The contract calls for milling and paving, concrete pavement repairs, and installing pavement markings and snow plowable markers.

Intermittent lane closures will be in place each night in this area for the next few months as weather permits. The contract allows lane closures in either direction from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday mornings, and from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. Friday nights through Sunday mornings.

The project also includes improvements to the northbound and southbound bridges over Morehead Street, Irwin Creek/Stewart Creek Greenway, and Fourth/Trade Streets.

Contract crews will clean and paint the bridges, replace bridge joints, perform repairs to the concrete deck, and add a new deck overlay to smooth the ride for motorists.

The project is scheduled for completion this fall.
