Section of I-26 West Closing for Two Nights

HENDERSONVILLE – Construction crews along I-26 in Henderson County are set to install beams for a new bridge on I-26 over Blue Ridge Southern Railroad just south of U.S. 25 on Thursday and Friday nights.

The operation requires a section of I-26 West to be closed from U.S. 64 (Exit 49) to U.S. 25 (Exit 44) starting at 8 p.m. on Thursday and 9 p.m. on Friday. A single lane closure for eastbound traffic may accompany the operation at times.

Drivers will be detoured in Hendersonville at U.S. 64 (Exit 49B) and directed west to U.S. 25 (Asheville Highway) where they may rejoin I-26 at Exit 44.

Detoured traffic will be incorporated into the Integrated Corridor Management system, a signal-timing program that provides longer green lights on the route. NCDOT officials have successfully utilized the new system several times this spring.

The existing bridge will remain in place until traffic is switched later this year. The new bridge will be wide enough for three lanes.

Transportation officials advise drivers to allow extra time for travel at night and to obey all posted traffic signs.
