This Week at NCDOT: NCDOT Project Recognition and Kids Train Fare

RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.

NCDOT Receives Regional Recognition

Every year, the Southern Association of State Highway Transportation Officials recognizes transportation projects that make their communities a better place to live, work and play.

This year, NCDOT projects won three of the eight possible regional awards, more than any other state in the region.

The recognized projects included the reconstruction of Salem Parkway, Wilson’s new on-demand micro transit service RIDE and the Monroe Expressway’s all-electronic tolling system.

In September, these three NCDOT projects could have the chance to compete on a national level, where winners will be determined in two separate competitions by a panel of judges and the general public.

The SASHTO regional competition is part of the America’s Transportation Awards sponsored by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials or AASHTO.
