RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Transportation plans to close the westbound lanes of New Bern Avenue at the bridge over the Neuse River east of Raleigh on Sunday.
The closure is needed to allow crews to safely work from the bridge deck to clear a blockage in the river below. This effort is in collaboration with the City of Raleigh to improve recreational use opportunities on the Neuse River.
Beginning at 9 a.m., traffic will be detoured to Interstate 540, I-87 and I-440 to get around the closure. Work is expected to be completed by 5 p.m.
Drivers should allow extra time for the detour and pay extra attention while driving near the work zone.
