CARTHAGE – Several highways and secondary roads in N.C. Department of Transportation Highway Division 8 are scheduled to be revamped starting next spring.

NCDOT recently awarded a pair of contracts to mill and resurface roads and grade shoulders as follows:

In Moore County, the Fred Smith Company was awarded a $4.1 million contract to improve 18.3 miles of highway in Moore County composed of two sections of U.S. 1, five sections of N.C. 5, and a section each of N.C. 22, N.C. 211 and N.C. 690.

In Randolph County, the Thompson Arthur Division of APAC Atlantic Inc. was awarded a $3.8 million contract to improve 10 sections of secondary roads totaling 21.4 miles.

Work on both projects can begin as early as March and is expected to be complete by mid-summer 2023.

Drivers can expect these projects to take place under periodic lane closures and should be cautious near the work zones.
