RALEIGH — N.C. Department of Transportation crews will continue a series of closures on Wade Avenue for another week as a part of the Interstate 440 Improvements Project.
Beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, one lane of eastbound Wade Avenue before the I-440 interchange will close to allow crews to stage equipment for the demolition of the old I-440 East bridge over Wade Avenue.
At midnight, and until 5 a.m. tomorrow, all lanes of eastbound Wade Avenue will close at the interchange while the contractor works to safely demolish the structure. Traffic shifted onto the new bridge in November.
Eastbound drivers will be detoured onto I-440 West and Hillsborough Street to turn around and access eastbound Wade Avenue and I-440 East.
These closures will be in place through Friday night before switching to sections of the old bridge over the westbound lanes, tentatively planned for next week.
Motorists need to pay attention near the work zone and anticipate needing extra time for the detour.
