MORRISVILLE – Work that is part of the improvements to the Interstate 40 and Airport Boulevard interchange will require a series of closures on I-40 tonight.
Beginning at 8 p.m., the far-right lane of I-40 East will be closed between I-540 and Airport Boulevard as crews safely unload bridge girders near the site of the new structures.
At midnight, the three left lanes of I-40 East will close near Page Road (Exit 282), leaving just the one far-right lane open.
Later in the night, a slow-rolling roadblock on I-40 East near Page Road (Exit 282) will be put in as the large crane being used is moved from the I-40 eastbound shoulder to the median. This roadblock could last up to 30 minutes. Several girders will then be unloaded in the median.
Once unloading is complete, another slow-rolling roadblock will be installed as the crane is moved back to the eastbound shoulder, also stopping traffic for up to 30 minutes.
All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. tomorrow.
Motorists need to slow down and pay extra attention as they travel through the work zone.
