WINSTON-SALEM – Beginning tonight, an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will close lanes and ramps of Interstate 40 in Forsyth County for an ongoing rehabilitation and bridge preservation project, weather permitting.
The following nightly closures are scheduled to take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning:
- On May 10 -12, one of two lanes is scheduled to be closed on I-40 East from east of Union Cross Road to the Guilford County line.
- On May 10-12, two of three lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 East from west of Peters Creek Parkway to west of U.S. 52.
- On May 10-11, two of three lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 West from U.S. 52 to east of Peters Creek Parkway.
- On May 10, one of two lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 West from east of Union Cross Road to west of Union Cross Road.
- On May 11, one of two lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 West from east of Highpoint Road to U.S. 311/74.
- On May 10-11, one of two lanes are scheduled to be closed on the ramp from U.S. 421 South to I-40 East (Exit 238). The right lane closure will extend across the length of the bridge that is on the ramp.
- On May 10, the U.S. 421 North loop (Exit 238) to I-40 East is scheduled to be closed. A signed detour directing traffic to continue on U.S. 421 North to Peace Haven Road and U.S. 421 South to access I-40 East will be in place.
- On May 12, two of three lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 West from U.S. 52 to Stratford Road.
The following nightly closures are scheduled to take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning:
- On May 10, two of three northbound lanes on the Peters Creek bridge are scheduled to be closed.
- On May 10 and 12, the offramp from I-40 East to Highway 66 is scheduled to be closed. A signed detour will be in place directing traffic to continue on I-40 East to Sandy Ridge Road and I-40 West to return to Highway 66.
- On May 10-12, the ramp from Silas Creek Parkway to I-40 East is scheduled to be to be closed. A signed detour will be in place directing traffic to Peters Creek Parkway to access I-40 East.
- On May 11-12, the ramp from Union Cross Road to I-40 East is scheduled to be closed. A signed detour directing traffic to Old Salem Road and Highway 66 to access I-40 East will be in place.
- On May 12, the ramp from Silas Creek Parkway to I-40 east is scheduled to be closed. A signed detour will be in place directing traffic to Peters Parkway to access I-40 East.
- On May 12, the ramp from Stratford Road to I-40 West is scheduled to be closed. A signed detour will be in place directing traffic to Silas Creek Parkway and U.S. 421 North to access I-40 West.
- On May 12, the ramp from I-40 West to Stratford Road is scheduled to be closed. A signed detour directing traffic to U.S. 421 North, Jonestown Road, U.S. 421 South and I-40 East to access Stratford Road will be in place.
Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zone and plan accordingly for delays.
