Lane Closure, New Traffic Pattern to Begin in Sampson County

CLINTON – A portion of a Sampson County road and a lane on U.S. 421 will close this week for the ongoing widening of N.C. 24.

Beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday, Pearson Road near U.S. 421 (Taylor Bridge Highway) will close. Residents will have access via the service road or by using U.S. 701 and Moseley Avenue as a detour. The road will remain closed to traffic until construction is complete on U.S. 421, which is expected early next month.

Also on Thursday, one lane of U.S. 421 near Pearson Road will permanently close in order to tie new southbound lane into the old U.S. 421.

During the transition to both routes, there will traffic control helping drivers navigate. Drivers should remain cautious and slow down in this area.

The new traffic pattern will tie in existing U.S. 421 with the new four-lane section of N.C. 24. The project will complete construction of the interchange, which will allow for future work on N.C. 24 between Clinton to Interstate 40.
