Emergency Bridge Closure in Stanly County

NORWOOD – The N.C. Department of Transportation has closed the bridge on Old Cottonville Road over Hardy Creek in Stanly County for maintenance work.

During a routine inspection, crews discovered a hole in the bridge deck and closed the bridge immediately. A project to replace the bridge has been advertised for bids and will be awarded next month. Construction may start as soon as mid-July, so the bridge will remain closed until that project gets underway.

NCDOT has posted a 2.7-mile detour around the closure from Cottonville Road to South Stanly School Road, returning to Old Cottonville Road. Drivers should remain alert and allow extra time to reach their destination.
