Closures this Week on I-40 in Forsyth County

WINSTON-SALEM – Starting tonight, an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will close lanes and ramps of Interstate 40 in Forsyth County for an ongoing rehabilitation and bridge preservation project, weather permitting.

The following nightly closures are scheduled to take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning:

  • On May 31-June 2, two of three lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 East from Hanes Mall Boulevard to east of Peters Creek Parkway.
  • On May 31- June 1, one of two lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 West from the Guilford County line to Union Cross Road.
  • On June 1-2, one of two lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 East from the U.S. 311/74 interchange to Highpoint Road.
  • On June 1-2, one of two lanes are scheduled to be closed on the exit ramp from I-40 West (Exit 188) to US-421 North.
  • On June 2, one of two lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 West from N.C. 66 to Union Cross Road.

The following nightly closures are scheduled to take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning:

  • On May 31-June 2, two lanes are scheduled to be closed on the Peters Creek bridge in both the northbound and southbound directions.
  • On May 31, the ramp from Peters Creek Parkway to I-40 West is scheduled to be closed with a signed detour.
  • On May 31-June 2, the exit ramp from I-40 West to Peters Creek Parkway (Exit 192) is scheduled to be to be closed with a signed detour.
  • On May 31-June 1, the exit ramp from I-40 West to Highway 66 is scheduled to be closed with a signed detour.
  • On May 31-June 1, the ramp from Highway 66 to I-40 West is scheduled to be closed with a signed detour.
  • On June 1, the ramp from N.C. 311/I-74 to I-40 East (Exit 55) is scheduled to be closed with a signed detour.
  • On June 2, the ramp from I-40 West to Union Cross Road is scheduled to be closed with a signed detour.
Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zone and plan accordingly for delays.​
