Lane Closure Beginning This Weekend for Bridge Improvements

CASTLE HAYNE – To safely improve a bridge at the Pender and New Hanover County line, an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will close a lane of Interstate 40 beginning this weekend.

Weather permitting, at 7 a.m. Saturday, a lane of the I-40 West bridge over the Northeast Cape Fear River near Exit 414 will close. When finished with that lane, they will move to the other westbound lane and then finish in the eastbound lanes.

During the closure, crews will mill the bridge deck. This work is part of larger $2.9 million project to improve both eastbound and westbound bridges, which is expected to be completed late this fall.

Drivers should be mindful of crews working and stay alert and drive slowly through the work zone.
